Tsumuraya’s wagashi (Japanese style sweets) is widely loved in Osaka. Since our establishment over 50 years ago, we have been offering individually hand crafted wagashi made with Japanese traditional techniques.
Ourproducts can be enjoyed as a teatime snack or as a special gift.
Castella is a wagashi made with flour and eggs. We bake it in the traditional Japanese way without using leavening agents. The cake’s high egg content gives it a moist texture, rich egg flavor and mild sweetness.
It goes best with warn milk or coffee.
As it keeps well, it’s a great gift to bring back home.

A huge, whole syrup poached chestnut and shiroan (white bean paste) are wrapped up in this wagashi.
The texture of the meticulously cooked chestnut is soft and tender, while the wheat based outer layer has a delicate butter flavor.
By using very large chestnuts, we have developed a wagashi that is uniquely different from the traditional kuri manju that is widely loved in Japan.

The peel and juice of yuzu citrus add a refreshing taste to this smooth,jiggly warabimochi.
Enjoy the combination of the unique, gelatin-like texture with the juicy taste of yuzu citrus.
The taste is zesty without being sour.
It can be enjoyed with yuzu syrup or kinako powder depending onyour taste. It’s best served cold, making it a perfect dessert for hot summer days.

Ingredients: Sugar, hon-warabiko, lotus root starch, thickener (processed starch, polysaccharide thickener) yuzu peel, yuzu juice, kinako (soy bean) – in a separate package
This summer treat is made by arranging shiratama (rice dumplings), and hand-made tsubuan (chunky sweet bean paste) on top of agar jelly made with special Osaka water.
Muscovado syrup is drizzled on top and ume (sour plum) agar jelly pieces add a pleasing sweet and tangy accent to the taste.
Anmitsu is a staple summer wagashi in Japan. It’s a must try, if you come to Japan in summer.

This delicate wagashi is made purely with strained chestnut and sugar.
We carefully strain the best quality chestnuts harvested in Osaka to make a refined wagashi with a surprisingly smooth texture and the true sweetness of chestnuts.
The characteristic shape is called chakin shibori, and is formed by wrapping and wringing the mashed chestnuts mix in a tea towel. It is a traditional technique.

A whole muscat grape is wrapped in fresh nama-fu that has a smooth and springy texture. Nama-fu, a Japanese delicacy based on wheat gluten, is originated in Kyoto, and makes fu-manju a gourmet delight.
The texture of nama-fu is very unique. Fu-manju with plump and juicy muscat grapes are available in summer and autumn. In spring, we offer fu-manju with yuzu flavor bean paste, and in winter, coffee flavor bean paste.
(In spring and winter, there’s no fresh fruit wrapped inside.)

Ingredients: Sugar, white kidney beans, shine muscat grapes, glutinous rice, wheat flour protein, yuzu peel, yuzu juice
This rich almond flavor wagashi is baked with flour and eggs. The filling is kimian, which is the mixture of white bean paste and egg yolk.
The design is taken from the roofing tiles of Heian-kyu, a castle in ancient Kyoto, which were manufactured in Suita.
As it keeps for a long time, it would be a great gift to bring back home.

Mikasa is also called dorayaki, which is known as the favorite snack of Doraemon, a popular anime character.
Tsubuan (chunky sweet bean paste) and chopped chestnuts are sandwiched between two rich pancakes baked on a copper plate. Mikasa or dorayaki is a very popular wagashi made by many confectionary shops all over Japan.
However, each store has its own house recipe.
